Gaudí's Houses and Modernism Walking Tour

About this experience

Run by YouOnTour BCN, this is an exterior walking tour of about 2 km through the Eixample, mostly flat. It starts near Plaça de Catalunya and stops at Casa Calvet, where Gaudí's style first shows through a still-classical facade. Then it follows Passeig de Gràcia, the boulevard where Barcelona's richest families competed to build the finest homes.

The guide covers the symbolism of Casa Batlló before the tour ends at Casa Milà, explaining why it shocked the city. Gaudí built Casa Milà from 1906 to 1912 for Pere Milà and Roser Segimon, and it was his last civil work. Barcelona nicknamed it La Pedrera, "the stone quarry", as a jibe at the rough, rippling stone front. Ending there is handy: book a ticket for straight after and go in with the context still fresh.

The listing has 4.9 stars from 19 reviews, with a perfect 5.0 for the guide and for value. Guests say guides add extra houses along the way to show the range of styles. Entry to the buildings is not included. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

We had a great time while learning a lot of history, not only about Gaudi’s houses, but also about Barcelona. Yahia even took us to see other houses along the way to show us the diverse styles of architecture in Barcelona. It’s mind blowing! This city is a live museum, we loved it!!!
