Antoni Gaudí died in Barcelona on 10 June 1926, three days after a tram struck him, while he was still overseeing work on the Sagrada Família. The centenary is being marked across Barcelona and Catalonia as the Gaudí Year, with exhibitions, conferences and cultural programmes.
Below: what the Gaudí Year is, what La Pedrera has programmed, why Casa Milà matters in his story, the new tower at the Sagrada Família, the other Gaudí works and how to see several in one day. For the current timetable, read our La Pedrera winter hours post.
The quick answer
Gaudí Year 2026 marks the centenary of Gaudí's death. La Pedrera's programme includes the Anselm Kiefer exhibition on the main floor until 24 January 2027, the Gaudí International Congress held on 22 to 24 October, and a new monograph on the building. At the Sagrada Família, the Tower of Jesus Christ was completed and is now the basilica's tallest, at 172.5 m. Park Güell marks its own centenary this year.
What is Gaudí Year 2026?
The commemoration of the centenary of Gaudí's death in 1926, with exhibitions, conferences and cultural programmes in Barcelona and across Catalonia.
La Pedrera sums up two aims for the year. One is to study his work with a rigorous scientific approach, beyond symbolic readings. The other is to bring Gaudí back to local audiences, so his buildings feel like part of the city's life again, not only tourist icons.
The dates below trace the arc from his first house to the centenary. Since 2005 his works as a whole have been on the UNESCO World Heritage list, extending the 1984 listing of Park Güell, Palau Güell and Casa Milà.

What is La Pedrera doing for the Gaudí Year?
A programme of exhibitions, festivals, a family activity, an academic congress and a monograph on the building. The Kiefer exhibition runs on until 24 January 2027.
La Pedrera says the programme will be expanded and updated throughout the year. The two exhibitions both opened the main floor, the Milà family's apartment, to every visitor. The monograph, published with Triangle Books, brings together Lluís Permanyer, Daniel Giralt-Miracle, Carlos Flores, Josep Maria Huertas, Galdric Santana and David Ferrer, with historical images and photographs by Pere Vivas.
The visits themselves are part of the programme too: the day ticket, the Night Experience and the guided options all run as usual. Full detail on the exhibition is in our Anselm Kiefer at La Pedrera post.

It was his last civil building. After it, Gaudí gave the rest of his life to the Sagrada Família, and the new monograph argues he reached his artistic maturity here.
Pere Milà and Roser Segimon commissioned the house, and Gaudí certified it finished on 31 October 1912. Everything he had tested before comes together: a stone curtain wall with no load-bearing role, wrought-iron balconies made from scrap, a structure of pillars that freed the floor plans, and a rooftop of 29 chimneys in trencadís.
The attic tells the rest of the story. Under 270 brick arches, the Espai Gaudí is the only exhibition dedicated to his whole career, with models, plans and videos. For a centenary visit, it is the best single overview in the city.

The Tower of Jesus Christ was completed, making it the basilica's tallest at 172.5 m. Pope Leo XIV blessed it after a Mass on 10 June 2026, the anniversary of Gaudí's death.
The tower is crowned by a ceramic cross and now leads the skyline. From La Pedrera's rooftop, one arch frames the Sagrada Família, which makes the two a natural pair for the centenary.
The basilica's basic ticket costs €26 with the audioguide app, and €36 with the towers, on the Sagrada Família's own site. The priority access guided tour adds a guide, skip-the-line entry and the museum with Gaudí's sketches, from $61. Bring ID, and cover shoulders and knees.
