La Pedrera in winter

From 2 November, La Pedrera closes its day visits two hours earlier and starts the night sessions as soon as it gets dark. Christmas brings longer days again, and one full week in January the doors stay shut.

Casa Milà runs two main timetables a year, plus a special one over Christmas. The winter switch changes three things at once: the day visit ends earlier, the night sessions move forward by almost two hours, and the light on the rooftop fades well before closing.

Below: the winter hours, the closed days, how the night sessions work after dark, what happens to the rooftop in rain, the best time of day and how to book around Christmas and January. For every ticket type and price, see our Casa Milà tickets guide.

The quick answer

From 2 November 2026 to 25 February 2027, La Pedrera opens every day from 9:00 to 18:30, with night sessions from 19:00 to 23:00. From 26 December to 3 January it stays open until 20:30 (from 11:00 on 1 January), with night sessions from 21:00 to 23:00. It is closed on 25 December and from 11 to 17 January 2027. The rooftop closes in rain, so book a ticket you can move.

What are La Pedrera's opening hours in winter?

Every day from 9:00 to 18:30, holidays included, between 2 November 2026 and 25 February 2027. Night sessions run from 19:00 to 23:00.

La Pedrera publishes these as general hours. The exact entry slots for each ticket show when you pick a date, and they differ by visit type: the day ticket, the Night Experience and the Art Season ticket each have their own times. Plan on about 1 hour 30 minutes inside for the standard route, so a day entry needs to start by about 17:00 to finish comfortably before closing.

Compared with summer, the day visit loses two hours in the evening. The night programme gains time, though: the window grows from 20:40 to 22:20 in summer to 19:00 to 23:00 in winter.

When is La Pedrera closed in winter 2026-27?

On 25 December 2026 and for a full week from 11 to 17 January 2027, both dates included. Every other winter day it is open.

The January closure is the one that catches people out. It falls in the middle of the low season, when many travellers pick Barcelona for a cheap city break. If your trip lands that week, see the Passeig de Gràcia facade from the street and put the inside visit on another day, or swap in a different Gaudí house. Our Gaudí Year post runs through the other houses.

Christmas works the other way. From 26 December to 3 January the building stays open two hours longer than the rest of winter, which makes the holiday week one of the easiest times for a late visit.

How do the night sessions work in winter?

They start at 19:00, already in full darkness, and run until 23:00. The Night Experience is a guided route that ends with a video-mapping show on the rooftop and a glass of cava.

In summer the first session waits for dusk at 20:40. For most of the winter it is dark by 19:00, so even the earliest slot gets the full effect of the projections, and you can still be at dinner by 20:30. La Pedrera's own page puts the visit at 1 hour 20 minutes, with guides in Catalan, Spanish, English and Chinese, and says the show "sells out every night".

On the Night Experience listing the visit is semi-guided: a guide introduces each level, then the projection starts. Some guests find the pace quick, so the day ticket suits anyone who wants to linger. Christina stayed on the roof after the show: "[...] walked around the roof to see the Sagrada and Torres Glòries lit up. Well worth the experience!"

Does the rooftop close when it rains?

Yes. La Pedrera closes the rooftop in rain for safety. An official ticket that has not been scanned can then be moved to another date.

The rest of the route stays open: the two courtyards, the 1911 apartment and the attic of 270 brick arches with the Espai Gaudí exhibition. The courtyards are open to the sky, so rain falls into them, while the apartment and the attic are fully under cover. Without the rooftop you lose the highlight, so on a wet morning it pays to wait for a dry slot.

Official tickets cannot be refunded or changed, except for one change with the €1.90 flexibility insurance or the rain rule above. The GetYourGuide listings for La Pedrera cancel free up to 24 hours before, which gives you room to watch the forecast.

What is the best time to visit La Pedrera in winter?

From 9:00 to 10:00 or after 16:00, the two quietest windows on La Pedrera's own advice. An entry after 16:00 also puts you on the rooftop near sunset.

In December the sun sets around 17:30, inside the day hours. A 16:00 entry gives you the courtyards, the apartment and the attic first, then the rooftop as the light turns gold over the Eixample. Muyeol, on the day ticket, put it simply: "I highly recommend watching from the rooftop at sunset!"

For the quietest rooftop of all, the early-morning guided tour goes in before the doors open to the public, with a guide and extra areas the standard route skips. Nancy, from Canada, "liked going early so there wasn't so many people." The sunset entry is the self-guided evening option, from $28; its winter slots show when you book.

How far ahead should you book for Christmas and January?

A few days ahead for day visits, and earlier for the Night Experience, which La Pedrera says sells out every night. Holiday week evenings go first.

Buying online skips the ticket-office queue, and the box office adds a surcharge on some fares. Groups of more than nine people must book ahead. For Christmas week, when the evening sessions start at 21:00, book the night visit as soon as your dates are fixed.

Free cancellation helps most in winter. Between rain and the January closure, plans move, and the day ticket on GetYourGuide lets you cancel up to 24 hours before. It is sold by La Pedrera itself, rated 4.7 from 29,827 reviews, from $33.
